Call for Officer &
Steering Committee Nominations 

Your nominations are needed for ASA officers and steering committee members. The ASA bylaws call for the annual nomination and election of officers. Any member of ASA may nominate a fellow member to serve.

ASA is seeking nominations for the following elected positions: 

Treasurer (2025-2028) of the Steering Committee to serve for three years

The treasurer provides financial oversight of association funds, accounts, and policy through the administrative office, presents the annual statement and an assessment of the financial condition of the association at each annual meeting, examines the books and provides regular reports to the steering committee, works with the association’s executive director and CPA; and chairs the finance committee.

 

One Y’ALL Steering Committee Member (2025-2027) to serve for two years

Y’ALL Steering Committee members act as co-chairs of the Young Appalachian Leaders and Learners committee and work collaboratively with the president in support of the conference.

 

Secretary is a three-year term (2025–2028)

The secretary shall record the minutes of all meetings of the association and the steering committee as well as post approved minutes to the electronic archive; and shall maintain a copy of the association bylaws, articles of incorporation, and Robert's Rules of Order.

 

President (past President) is a four-year term; two years as President (2025-2027) and two years as past President (2027-2029)

The president presides at all meetings, directs fundraising, works with conference chairperson to negotiate the conference location, serves as spokesperson, and serves on the steering committee. As past president, this person will manage ASA policies and bylaws as well as assist and mentor the president.

How to Make a Nomination

Make sure the nominee is willing to serve and understands the commitment involved. 

​

Write a 100-word biography of the nominee that includes their involvement in Appalachian studies and/or ASA. This paragraph will be included in the spring Appalink with the ballot. You may also submit a photograph. 

​

Self nominations are welcome. 

​

The ASA is headquartered at Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia.
